Located at 33500 Seven Mile Road on the former K Mart property, the new store will be the fourth Meijer Grocery in Michigan. The company aims to provide a more convenient option for shoppers seeking groceries and household basics without navigating a full-scale supercenter.
Store Features and Local Touches
The Livonia Meijer Grocery will offer a full range of produce, groceries, and prepared foods, along with dedicated bakery, meat, seafood, and deli departments. Additional sections will include a pharmacy, floral and greeting card area, health and beauty products, and supplies for babies and pets. While the focus is on food and essentials, a limited general merchandise area will remain part of the store's layout.
To staff the new location, Meijer has hired 175 employees. The store will also feature two custom steel-and-glass sculptures created by Detroit artists Erik and Israel Nordin of the Detroit Design Center. These public art pieces, designed specifically for Livonia, are intended to reflect the community spirit and the role of grocery stores in bringing people together.
Community Programs and Services
During a media preview on August 12, Meijer presented a $15,000 donation to Breaking Barriers, a Livonia food pantry serving more than 2,500 local families. The new store will offer Meijer's mPerks rewards program, Shop & Scan technology, home delivery, and pickup services. Shoppers will find both Meijer-branded and local products on the shelves.
The Livonia location follows the opening of Meijer Grocery stores in Lake Orion and Macomb Township in 2023, and in Rochester Hills in May. Meijer continues to operate 125 supercenters and market format stores across Michigan, with a traditional supercenter under construction in Plymouth Township scheduled to open September 30.
