Ethics Policy

Farmington Voice standards for independence, accuracy, fairness, conflicts of interest, sourcing, advertising, rankings, sensitive topics, AI and corrections.

Farmington Voice is committed to publishing editorial content about local, Michigan and relevant U.S. developments with accuracy, fairness, independence and transparency.

Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently. Advertisers do not control independent editorial conclusions, and Farmington Voice writers should not promise positive coverage in exchange for payment.

Accuracy and Context

Material facts should be checked against reliable sources. Headlines should reflect the substance of the reporting rather than materially exaggerate it.

Names, dates, quotations, statistics and other important details should be verified where practical. Material uncertainty should be stated when information is incomplete.

Fairness

  • Do not misrepresent sources;
  • Distinguish allegations from established facts;
  • Provide relevant context for disputed claims;
  • Avoid unnecessary harm;
  • Seek relevant responses to serious allegations when appropriate.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors and editors should disclose relevant financial, commercial, professional or personal conflicts.

Gifts, access, samples or compensation must not determine editorial conclusions.

Sourcing

Named sources and primary sources are preferred. Anonymous sources are used rarely and only under the conditions described in our Unnamed Sources Policy.

Advertising

Farmington Voice uses Google AdSense display advertising. Advertising is separate from editorial decision-making.

Farmington Voice does not currently publish sponsored editorial articles.

Reviews and Rankings

Methodology should be sufficiently clear for readers to understand significant editorial judgments.

Paid visibility does not determine editorial ranking position.

YMYL and Sensitive Topics

Content that may affect health, legal rights, finances, safety or major life decisions is handled with additional caution and should not be treated as personalized professional advice.

Farmington Voice avoids unsupported medical, legal or financial claims, guaranteed outcomes, personal diagnosis or treatment instructions and manipulative fear-based claims.

Images, Data and AI

Images should not materially mislead readers. Charts and data should identify relevant sources where practical.

AI use is limited to selected illustrative images. AI must not fabricate sources, quotations, names, events or credentials. Human editors remain responsible for publication decisions.

Corrections

Verified factual errors should be corrected. Concerns may be sent to corrections@farmingtonvoice.com.
