Publishing Principles

How Farmington Voice selects, researches, reviews, labels, publishes and updates news and other editorial material while maintaining commercial separation.

Farmington Voice publishes editorial content about local communities, Michigan and relevant U.S. developments for readers in Michigan and beyond. These principles explain how we select, review, label and update published material.

What We Publish

  • News;
  • Explainers;
  • Analysis;
  • Guides;
  • Reviews and comparisons;
  • Occasional rankings;
  • Interviews and expert commentary;
  • Opinion when clearly distinguished from news.

Farmington Voice does not currently publish sponsored editorial-style content.

Topic Selection

Stories are selected according to relevance, usefulness, public interest, timeliness, available sourcing, potential reader impact and the need to explain complex topics.

Our editorial principle is “Local first. Michigan always. National when relevant.”

Source-Based Publishing

We prefer primary sources where appropriate, including public records, official documents, legislation, government data, regulatory records, research, company filings and direct statements.

Editorial Workflow

  1. Research: identify relevant sources and evidence.
  2. Drafting: distinguish facts from interpretation and unresolved claims.
  3. Editorial review: assess framing, clarity and material claims.
  4. Source and link check: review important citations, dates, names and statistics.
  5. Sensitive claim review: apply additional caution to high-impact topics.
  6. Publication decision: publish, revise, delay or decline according to editorial judgment.

Content Labels

Labels may include News, Analysis, Explainer, Guide, Review, Ranking, Methodology and Opinion.

Sponsored and Partner Content are not current editorial formats. If introduced, they must be clearly labeled.

Commercial Separation

Farmington Voice uses Google AdSense display advertising.

Commercial relationships do not determine independent editorial conclusions.

Paid visibility does not determine editorial ranking position.

AI

AI use is currently limited to selected illustrative or graphical images. AI is not used for article drafting, translation, summaries or source monitoring.

Updates and Corrections

Outdated information may be updated when new evidence becomes available. Verified factual errors are handled through the Corrections Policy. Minor grammar and formatting changes may be made without a separate note.
