Bucks County Opportunity Council has extended its fundraising campaign for a new eviction prevention program through August, with donations matched up to $50,000 by the Gene and Marlene Epstein Humanitarian Fund

The Bucks County Opportunity Council has extended its fundraising campaign to support a new eviction prevention program, giving residents and supporters until the end of August to contribute. The initiative aims to help local families avoid eviction and maintain housing stability, with a matching donation challenge from the Gene and Marlene Epstein Humanitarian Fund.

Gene Epstein, a well-known Bucks County philanthropist, has pledged to match every dollar donated to the program through August 31, up to a total of $50,000. The campaign seeks to raise $150,000 in total, which will be used to provide emergency rental assistance, legal support, and case management for families at risk of losing their homes.

Program Targets Eviction Crisis

Bucks County faces one of the highest eviction filing rates in Pennsylvania, according to the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania. On average, 14 renter households in the county receive eviction filings each day, with the Bensalem area experiencing the highest concentration. The new Eviction Prevention Pilot Program is designed to assist up to 25 households, offering not only financial help but also legal guidance and personalized support to help families regain stability and increase their income.

The Bucks County Opportunity Council, which leads the effort, emphasizes that preventing eviction can help families avoid the trauma of homelessness, job loss, and school disruptions. The program's goals include connecting tenants with legal resources, supporting employment and income growth, and strengthening community stability across Bucks County.

How Residents Can Help

Donations to the campaign can be made directly to the Bucks County Opportunity Council, with every contribution doubled during the matching period. The organization encourages community members and local businesses to participate, noting that the combined support can make a significant difference for families facing housing insecurity.

For more information or to donate, residents can contact Joe Cuozzo at jcuozzo@bcoc.org or call 215-345-8175 x204. The fundraising drive will continue through August 31, with all funds directed toward preventing evictions and supporting long-term stability for Bucks County families.

Eviction prevention programs like this one are increasingly important as many communities across the country face rising housing costs and economic uncertainty. By intervening before families lose their homes, local organizations can help reduce the risk of homelessness and its associated challenges, while also promoting stronger, more resilient neighborhoods.
