Four seniors who joined the varsity roster as freshmen have helped Utica Eisenhower reach 24-2 and No. 6 in Michigan Division 1. The Eagles are set to meet Romeo in the district tournament, but no verified result was available as of Oct. 7.

Four seniors who entered the varsity lineup as freshmen now lead Utica Eisenhower into the state tournament. The Eagles carry a 24-2 record and rank No. 6 in Michigan Division 1.

MaxPreps also listed Eisenhower at No. 7 among all Michigan teams and No. 4 in the Detroit-area ranking. Both losses came against Grand Rapids Christian at the same August tournament at South Lyon East.

That record has raised the question of whether Eisenhower can turn a dominant regular season into its deepest postseason run under coach Caitlin LaPratt.

As of Oct. 7, the available record still showed Eisenhower at 0-0 in playoff matches. The Eagles were scheduled to play a conference road match at L'Anse Creuse North that day. They had won the first two sets, 25-1 and 25-23, and trailed 19-23 in the third when the update appeared. The Oct. 7 match listing contains those details.

For readers following high school sports in Farmington and Farmington Hills, the local civic and school systems are separate from this Macomb County program. The Farmington Public Schools board and the cities of Farmington and Farmington Hills do not determine MHSAA tournament results. Oakland County administration has no role in certifying the district bracket. School athletic records and municipal records come through different official channels.

Veteran experience leads Eisenhower

Setter Lili Tripi, Elise Biermann, Olivia Berishaj and Rease Buza form the team's senior core. LaPratt put the four on the varsity roster as freshmen and tested them against high-level competition before they reached their upperclassman years.

As freshmen, they helped Eisenhower reach a regional final. The Eagles went one round farther as sophomores and reached the Division 1 state quarterfinals. Romeo stopped that progress last season with a district-round upset.

The numbers this fall show how much the group has produced. Tripi, a second-team all-state selection last year, has 573 assists while running the offense and has committed to The College of Charleston. Biermann has 230 kills, and Olivia Berishaj has 203. Buza has added 263 digs from the back row. Freshman Juliet Berishaj has contributed 155 kills.

Romeo stands in the district path

Eisenhower will face Romeo again in the district tournament. This time, the matches are scheduled for Romeo's gym, which makes the assignment tougher. Romeo ended the Eagles' postseason there last year, so the matchup carries a direct link to the team's recent history.

If Eisenhower gets through the district, the next regional is viewed as winnable. The team would then face the state quarterfinal hurdle. A semifinal appearance would be the program's first advance beyond the quarterfinal round since LaPratt became head coach in 2009.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association's Oct. 2 coverage put South Lyon East, then No. 7 in Division 1, in the same competitive conversation after South Lyon East defeated South Lyon. South Lyon held honorable-mention status. The result showed how little room highly ranked teams may have before tournament play.

LaPratt has told the Eagles they cannot coast on a 24-2 record. The players know each match demands full attention, and the team must close the season as strongly as it started. LaPratt plans to keep raising the team's level while managing its pace so the players reach the playoffs at peak performance.

The season's production supports that plan. Experienced seniors run the offense, anchor the defense and provide most of the team's output, while a freshman has widened the attack. Eisenhower's record and No. 6 ranking make it a clear contender, but the district match at Romeo will test the team right away.

The publicly available 2026 tournament bracket did not confirm an Eisenhower-Romeo result or a later regional or quarterfinal appearance. Neither the MHSAA nor the available school and team listings had provided an independently verified update on those outcomes as of the reporting date. Eisenhower remains a veteran team with a path to advance, but the bracket had not yet recorded whether it cleared the district round.
