Discounted passes, hands-on workshops, and a rare look inside Farmington Hills' 5,000-square-foot creative hub are on offer this Saturday as The Hawk Makerspace celebrates its fourth anniversary with a free community open house.
Residents, hobbyists, and families will have a chance to explore the city-run facility at 29995 W. 12 Mile Road from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on September 12. The event is open to all and includes equipment demonstrations, interactive activities, refreshments, and prize drawings, according to the City of Farmington Hills.
Special Pass Offers and Demonstrations
For one day only, The Hawk Makerspace is rolling out special pricing on monthly and annual passes. Anyone purchasing a monthly pass during the open house will get the rest of September free and pay half price for October. Annual pass buyers will receive an extra month of access, totaling 13 months for the price of 12. Daily passes are not included in the promotion.
Attendees can watch live demonstrations of the Longarm Quilter at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and the ShopBot CNC Router at noon and 2 p.m. Staff will be on hand to answer questions about the equipment and explain how passholders can access tools during open studio hours. The Makerspace features a dedicated woodshop and a craft lab equipped with professional-grade tools for woodworking, crafting, and fabrication.

The Hawk Makerspace, which opened in September 2022 with support from the Bosch Community Fund, is designed to serve both beginners and experienced makers. Passholders receive access to independent equipment use, complimentary checkout courses for 3-Saws or wide-format printing, and reduced rates on additional training. The city recently reduced pass fees, making the space more accessible to residents and entrepreneurs interested in learning new skills or launching creative projects.
During the open house, visitors can learn about the full range of available equipment, including woodworking tools and digital fabrication machines.
