Shane Wash has been promoted to Deputy Director of Farmington Public Safety after more than 20 years with the department, bringing extensive leadership and training experience to the city's top public safety team

Shane Wash has been promoted to Deputy Director of the Farmington Public Safety Department, city officials announced this week. Wash, who joined the department in December 2005, steps into the role after serving as Commander and accumulating nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience.

Wash's promotion follows a career that has included assignments as Patrol Officer, Detective, Sergeant, and Commander, giving him a broad perspective on the department's operations and community needs. He has spent over two decades serving Farmington, building a reputation for leadership and commitment to public safety.

Extensive Training and Community Involvement

In addition to his leadership roles, Wash has played a key part in training new officers and developing future law enforcement professionals. He has served as a Department Trainer and Field Training Officer, mentoring recruits and helping shape the department's approach to public safety. Wash also teaches at Schoolcraft College, where he covers subjects including Criminal Justice, Fire Technology, and Homeland Security, and leads Emergency Vehicle Operations instruction at the Wayne County Regional Police Academy.

Academic and Professional Credentials

Wash holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Michigan University and a master's degree from Webster University. He recently completed the Police School of Staff and Command at Northwestern University, a program recognized for developing executive leadership skills in law enforcement.

Role in Farmington's Public Safety Leadership

As Deputy Director, Wash will work alongside Public Safety Director Bob Houhanisin to guide the department's mission and operations. The department provides both police and fire services to Farmington, coordinating emergency response, community outreach, and public safety initiatives for the city's residents and businesses.

Farmington Public Safety employs a cross-trained team of officers who respond to both police and fire calls, a model designed to maximize efficiency and service coverage in the city. The department's leadership team is responsible for setting policy, overseeing training, and ensuring that officers are prepared to meet the evolving needs of the community.

Wash's appointment comes as Farmington continues to invest in officer training, community engagement, and professional development. The department regularly partners with local schools, businesses, and organizations to promote safety and build relationships across the city.
