The City of Farmington Hills offers dozens of programs for area adults age 50 and better at the Center for Active Adults, located in the Costick Center, 28600 W. 11 Mile Rd.. The Center is open Monday–Friday, 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Lunch is served daily, $2.75 for ages 60 and better, $5 for under 60.

Dine and Discover: Holiday Traditions
Friday, Nov. 1, 11 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Enjoy brunch and learn about the pre-Christian traditions of winter solstice, yule, and Saturnalia, and how they influenced modern Christmas traditions such as kissing under the mistletoe. Fee is $10, advance tickets only.
Tuesday, Nov. 5, 10–11 a.m. Learn how your genetics and family health history make up who you are and can determine your future. Sign up in Conway Hall. No fee.
Newcomer Welcome Tour
Thursday, Nov. 7, 10–11 a.m. Residents of Farmington and Farmington Hills ages 50 and Better can tour the Center for Active Adults and learn more about services, events, trips, classes, and volunteer opportunities. Includes a welcome packet with a coupon for a complimentary lunch, gym class, swim or pickleball. Residents only. Sign up in Conway Hall.
Stars and Stripes Forever
Friday, Nov. 8, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. This annual commemoration of those who served our country includes an honor guard ceremony, recitation of veterans’ names, a special luncheon, raffles, prizes, and entertainment by David Catherman and Mary Manier. Fee is $10 with pre-registration by Nov. 4, $12 at the door. Admission offered at no charge for veterans residing in Farmington Hills and Farmington who pre-register in Conway Hall by Nov. 4. Friday’s Film: “Yesterday”
Friday, Nov. 15, 12–3 p.m. In addition to the movie, this event includes lunch, popcorn, candy, and a beverage. Fee is $5 in advance, $7 at the door.
Turkey, Pumpkins & Bingo, Oh My!
Tuesday, Nov. 19, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Connect with friends while playing Bingo, with an array of prizes, a musical performance, and a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Fee is $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
Friday, Nov. 22, 1–3 p.m. Head to Conway Hall and have fun singing karaoke with classics from the past and today’s hits. Light refreshments. Fee is $2.
Several support groups are also available at the Center for Active Adults including Caregivers, Grief and Loss, First Step Stroke, and Vision Impaired. The Center also offers many clubs that meet regularly including Computer Forum, Heritage Hikers, Quilters Group, Book Discussion, Painters Group, Sojourn Bears, and the Red Hat Society.
