The City of Farmington Hills offers dozens of programs for area adults age 50 and better at the Center for Active Adults, located in the Costick Center on 11 Mile Road between Middlebelt and Inkster. First Friday Ballroom
Friday, Nov. 3, 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Enjoy ballroom dancing featuring the Mike Wolverton Band with buffet dinner included. All levels of experience and adult ages, singles and couples welcome. $10 by Nov. 1, $12 after.
Cancer: Risk and Prevention
Thursday, Nov. 9, 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Learn about risks and behaviors, treatment and recovery strategies, and hospice and survivorship from cancer survivor and Nurse Gerryanna Luscri, who will present an open and practical approach to dealing with cancer. No fee.
Stars and Stripes Forever
Friday, Nov.10, 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Salute veterans at this annual commemoration of those who served our country. Enjoy an honor guard ceremony, a keynote speech, recitation of veterans’ names, a special luncheon, and an interactive presentation with Harry and Bess Truman. Complimentary admission offered to veterans residing in Farmington Hills and Farmington, must pre-register in Conway Hall by Nov. 6. Call 248-473-1830.
Turkey, Pumpkins & Bingo, Oh My!
Tuesday, Nov. 14, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Connect with friends while playing Bingo, with an array of prizes plus a musical performance and a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Fee is $8 by Nov. 9 registration deadline, $10 after.
Wednesday, Nov. 15, 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Professional organizer Theresa Brune will teach pain-free techniques for sorting through years of stuff and reclaiming the space in your home. Fee is $6.
Newcomer Welcome Tour
Thursday, Nov. 16, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Residents of Farmington and Farmington Hills 50 and Better can tour the Center for Active Adults at the Costick Center and learn more about services, events, trips, classes, and volunteer opportunities. Includes a welcome packet with a coupon for a complimentary lunch, gym class, swim, pickleball or line dance. Residents only.
Friday, Nov. 17, 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. Enjoy a delicious lunch, popcorn, candy, and a beverage, and watch the movie “The Big Sick.” Fee is $5 in advance, $7 at the door.
Several support groups are also available at the Center for Active Adults including Caregivers, Grief and Loss, First Step Stroke, and Vision Impaired. The Center also offers many clubs that meet regularly including Computer Forum, Heritage Hikers, Quilters Group, Book Discussion, Painters Group, Sojourn Bears, and the Red Hat Society.
