UPDATE: Tuesday snow, ice storm lead to school cancellations

Farmington Public Schools officials declared the third “snow day” of 2019, with southeast Michigan expecting another round of snow and ice early Tuesday morning.

FPS officials also canceled Tuesday’s school board meeting.

Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Fabian Catholic Schools, Mercy High School, and a number of other private schools and preschools also closed for the day.

The National Weather Service (NWS) on Monday issued a Winter Storm Warning that is in effect from 1 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Forecasters predict 3-6 inches of snow and at least one-tenth of an inch of ice, along with winds gusting between 30 and 40 miles per hour.

According to the warning, “Travel will be difficult as roads will be snow covered or icy. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning commutes.”

This is a developing story.
