Total Wellness Fair and more for seniors in October

The City of Farmington Hills offers dozens of programs for area adults age 50 and better at the Center for Active Adults, located in the Costick Center, 28600 W. 11 Mile Rd. The Center is open Monday-Friday from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Lunch is served daily, $2.75 for ages 60 and better, $5 for under 60.

Total Wellness Fair

Tuesday, Oct. 8, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Explore different ways to enhance an active, healthy lifestyle at this free community event featuring free Heart Screenings by Ascension, other health screenings, assessments, informative exhibits, and all the latest products and services from health vendors, as well as great door prizes and a free lunch for participants who are at least 60 years of age.

Tuesday, October 8, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Bring a picture ID with your current address and Medicare/Medicaid card. Cash fee for those without Medicare/Medicaid. No pre-registration. Walk-in only. For quicker service, wear a short sleeve shirt or a shirt with a sleeve that can be rolled to the top of your arm.

Dine and Discover: The Saarinens – A Designing Family

Tuesday, Oct. 15, 10–11:30 a.m. Enjoy a special brunch while you learn about the Saarinen house at Cranbrook and the design beliefs of the famed Finnish architect and his family. Fee is $10, advance tickets only.

iPhone Part 2

Thursdays, Oct. 17 – Nov. 14, 11 a.m.-12 p.m. This class is designed for those with an Apple iPhone and is a continuation of Part 1. Learn more about the amazing features of your iPhone. Bring your fully charged iPhone with you to class. Fee is $35 residents/$40 non-residents.

Caregiver Workshop – A Journey through Caregiving

Tuesday, Oct. 15, 7 p.m. The Commission on Aging will host a panel of professionals covering topics including senior housing, veterans’ services, at home services, and more. No fee.

Friday’s Film

Friday, Oct. 18, 12–3 p.m. Enjoy lunch, candy, popcorn, and a beverage and watch the movie “Rocketman.” $5 in advance, $7 at the door.

Music & Dancing – Great Gatsby Roaring Twenties

Friday, Oct. 25, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. Enjoy the glamor of an elegant 1920’s soiree! Travel back in time and celebrate The Great Gatsby in style with lunch and entertainment. Purchase tickets for $10 residents/$12 non-residents in Conway Hall.

Several support groups are also available at the Center for Active Adults including Caregivers, Grief and Loss, First Step Stroke, and Vision Impaired. The Center also offers many clubs that meet regularly including Computer Forum, Heritage Hikers, Quilters Group, Farmington Piecemakers, Pinochle Group, Duplicate Bridge, Painters Group, Sojourn Bears, and the Red Hat Society.
