Severe weather led officials to close down the Greater Farmington Founders Festival shortly before 8 p.m. Friday.
After a day of heat, humidity, and occasional rain, a line of thunderstorms moved through the area with warnings of 70-mile-per-hour winds, small hail and heavy rain. The Festival re-opened shortly before 9 p.m., with 50 Amp Fuse on the Main Stage in Shiawassee Park.
The threat of high, straight-line winds also activated local emergency sirens.
The forecast for Saturday activities, including the 9 a.m. LOC Color Run and 10 a.m. parade, calls for temps reaching 97 degrees, with a heat index as high as 107. There’s a chance of more showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m.
