Self-defense seminar in Farmington Hills benefits Y programs

A free Women’s Self-Defense Seminar held Saturday, March 2, 9 a.m.-12 p.m., at the Costick Center in Farmington Hills includes a fundraiser for the Farmington Family YMCA.

Presented by the Farmington Hills/Farmington Emergency Preparedness Commission, the seminar will teach women ages 13 and older how to protect themselves and their families in a non-intimidating, supportive environment. No previous experience is required.

A team of senior instructors, headed by Grand Master David Swartz, an Eighth Degree Black Belt who has taught self-defense skills for over 40 years, will lead the active and hands-on training. Participants should wear comfortable clothing. 

The Farmington Family YMCA’s annual campaign helps community members who might not have the financial means to pay for programs and services such as advocacy, athletics, fitness classes, and more.

Pre-registration is required; the class size is limited to the first 100 callers. The seminar is open to repeat attendees.
