Restaurant, strip mall makeover on Farmington planning agenda

The Farmington Planning Commission will learn more about plans for a Japanese steakhouse and a strip mall makeover during their June 11, 7 p.m., meeting in council chambers at City Hall.

Xie Zheng LLC has submitted plans to build a two-story, brick building at 32905 Grand River, the site of the former Ginger’s Cafe. The Samurai Steakhouse on the first floor will have indoor and patio seating, and three apartments on the second floor. The proponent also plans a renovation of the former Grand Bakery & Cafe, an adjacent building, with a connection between the two structures.

In a memo to commissioners, Economic and Community Development Director Kevin Christiansen explained that the proponent requested the pre-application conference “to discuss the appropriateness of a PUD (Planned Unit Development) and the concept plan to solicit feedback and to receive requests for additional materials supporting the proposal.”

The second project involves renovations and the addition of an outbuilding at the Worldwide Center, located at 34701 Grand River. The 1700-square-foot structure on the east end of the parking lot would have a drive-through window.
