Popular Hills women’s self-defense seminar returns

Press release

The Farmington Hills/Farmington Emergency Preparedness Commission (EPC) will present a Women’s Self-Defense Seminar on Saturday, September 23 from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the Costick Center, located at 28600 W. 11 Mile Rd. in Farmington Hills.

Jon Aldred for Farmington Hills City Council

Participants will learn how to protect themselves and their families in a nonintimidating, supportive environment; no previous experience is required.

Instruction will be provided by Grand Master David Swartz, an Eighth Degree Black Belt who has taught self-defense skills for over 40 years. The event will be active and hands-on, so participants should wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to share their self-defense related questions or concerns.

The free self-defense seminar is open to all women ages 13 and older. Tax deductible donations will be accepted at the seminar for CARES (Community. Action. Resources. Empowerment. Services.), an organization that helps those in Farmington Hills and surrounding communities who need access to resources including counseling, educational and work-related training, life skills, and mental health care.

Pre-registration is required and participation is limited to the first 100 callers.

Over 1,300 women have participated in the EPC’s popular self-defense seminars since they were first presented in 2007.

To register, call the Costick Center at 248-473-1800.
