Picnic, music, and more for Farmington area seniors in August

The City of Farmington Hills offers dozens of programs for area adults age 50 and better at the Center for Active Adults, located in the Costick Center, 28600 W. 11 Mile Rd. The Center is open Monday – Friday from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Lunch is served daily, $2.75 donation for ages 60 and better, $5 for under 60.

Summertime Blues Bingo

Thursday, Aug. 2, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Connect with friends at a fun afternoon of Bingo and prizes! Start with a jazzy performance then enjoy a delicious summer meal. Tickets available in Conway Hall; $8 before July 26, $10 after and at the door.

Concert in the Courtyard

Tuesday, Aug. 7, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. Enjoy an evening of live music, light refreshments, and appetizers in the beautiful courtyard, plus meet staff and learn about new fall programs. No fee. All ages welcome.

Seniors and Their Cell Phones

Fridays, August 10–24, 2 p.m.–4 p.m. Bring your fully charged smart cell phone and learn about photos, texting, passwords, apps, emails, voicemail, and more. Fee is $60 residents/$63 non-residents. Not for iPhone users.

Brainstorm Series – The Power of Sleep

Monday, Aug. 13, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Shake up your brain with fun new activities that stimulate and invigorate your thinking in this program designed by the Institute of Gerontology at Wayne State University. Sign up in Conway Hall.

Newcomer Welcome Tour

Thursday, Aug. 16, 10 a.m.–11 a.m. Residents of Farmington and Farmington Hills ages 50 and better can tour the Center for Active Adults at the Costick Center and learn more about services, trips, classes, volunteer opportunities, and activities. Includes a welcome packet with a coupon for a complimentary lunch, gym class, swim or line-dance. Residents only, sign up in Conway Hall.

Friday’s Film

Friday, Aug. 17, 12 p.m.–3 p.m. Come and enjoy the movie “Book Club.” Includes lunch, candy, popcorn, and a drink. $5 advance tickets, $7 at the door.

Hot Diggity Dog Summer Picnic

Thursday, Aug. 23, 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Celebrate the “Dog Days of Summer” with a picnic featuring hot dogs and a variety of toppings, plus chat with friends old and new. Advanced tickets only by August 21; $5 and available in Conway Hall.
