Walter Cohen, owner of the firm proposing redevelopment of the Maxfield Training Center site in Farmington, died Sunday after a brief battle with kidney cancer. He was 71.
According to Crain’s Detroit, Cohen began his career as a teen working for Arco Construction, a company founded by his father. Most recently, the firm completed redevelopment of a former Detroit Fire Department Headquarters to create the Detroit Foundation Hotel, and several major apartment and condo complexes in Detroit.
Survivors include sons David and Nicholas; daughter Laura Beth Cohen; grandchildren Lyla and Eliot; and sister Shari Cohen.
A funeral service is slated at noon on October 3 at Ira Kaufman Chapel, 18325 W. 9 Mile Rd. in Southfield.
