New Samurai restaurant still short on parking, public hearing tonight

Residents will have an opportunity to weigh in August 13 on plans for a new sushi restaurant, Japanese steakhouse, and 15 apartments to downtown Farmington.

The Samurai Steakhouse public hearing is scheduled during the Planning Commission’s 7 p.m. meeting held in council chambers at Farmington City Hall.

In a June review of the project, the number of parking spaces planned for the project fell short of the city’s minimum requirements. Xie Zheng, LLC planned to work with adjacent property owners on shared parking agreements.

However, the new proposal requires even more parking.

The first steakhouse building plan showed a 120-seat restaurant with four, second floor apartment units. The new proposal shows a four-story building with a 100-seat restaurant and 12 apartment units on three upper floors, boosting the number of required parking spaces from 75 to 91.
