New Farmington Schools mass message system alerts families

When Farmington Public Schools buildings closed because of a recent water main break, the district communicated with parents through a new mass messaging system.

Offered through Blackboard, which also handled last year’s FPS website redesign, the system allows District administrators to send out important messages to their school communities via phone call, text message, email, Facebook, Twitter, and website. Diane Bauman, Director of School/Community Relations, said it’s also cost-effective.

“Our hope is that through the use of this mass messaging system, the District is able to communicate with our families through a variety of channels to keep everyone informed and up-to-date with essential information,” she said.

Parents can opt out of all but emergency messages, but Bauman said the district recommends not doing so. If you miss a call from 248-489-3337, check your voice mail or call the number to listen to the sent message.
