Thistle Rose Academy of Arts will next month present W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan’s comedic opera “The Pirates of Penzance”.
Performances are slated at 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, Friday, June 22, and Saturday, June 23, and 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, at North Congregational Church, 36520 W. 12 Mile Rd. in Farmington Hills.
Gilbert and Sullivan’s follow up to the smash hit “H.M.S. Pinafore” follows the antics of an ineffectual band of pirates, a Major General and his bevy of lovely daughters and a bumbling police squad. Our young hero, Frederic, tries to find balance and his place within this world, torn between his desire for love and his overwhelming sense of duty.
The show represents a collaborative effort between the Thistle Rose Players and Thistle Rose Young Artists, with participants ranging in age from 13 to over 70. The group includes beginners and seasoned performers; the show is double cast, giving more actors the experience of singing a lead operatic role.
