Farmington area residents are invited to a free, day-long event January 15 to honor the legacy of civil rights activist Dr Martin Luther King, Jr.
Here’s the schedule of activities at the Farmington Community Library Main Library, 32737 W. 12 Mile Rd. in Farmington Hills:
- 10:30 a.m. – Make peace signs in Main Library Browsing Room
- 11:15 a.m. – March along 12 Mile
- 11:45 a.m. – Hear from community officials
- 12 p.m. – Keynote Speaker Yusef “Bunchy” Shakur: “Why does MLK matter in the 21st Century?”
- 12 p.m.-5 p.m. Make valentines for area seniors (Conference Room A)
- 1 p.m. – Hear from community officials
- 1:15 p.m. – Performance from the Warner Middle School Choir
- 2:15 p.m. – Wild Swan Theater presents Under the African Sky
- 3:30 p.m. – Poetry with Ber-Henda Williams
- 4 p.m. – Performance from Harrison High School Dance Company
- 5:30 p.m. – Dinner and a movie: enjoy pizza while watching a film, a discussion panel will follow
There will also be a Volunteer Opportunities Fair from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. and crafts in the Children’s program room from 1 p.m.-7 p.m.
