Holiday extravaganza and more for adults 50 and older

The City of Farmington Hills offers dozens of programs for area adults age 50 and older in Farmington and Farmington Hills at the Center for Active Adults, located in the Costick Center, 28600 W. 11 Mile Rd. Advance registration is required for all programs. To register for events or to obtain additional information, call 248-473-1830. The Center is open Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Lunch is served daily, $2.75 for ages 60 and better, $5 for under 60.

First Friday Ballroom

Friday, Dec. 1, 3 p.m.-6 p.m. Enjoy ballroom dancing featuring the Mike Wolverton Band with buffet dinner included. All levels of experience and adult ages, singles and couples welcome. $10 in advance, $12 at the door.

Shredding for Safety

Tuesday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m-12 p.m. Protect your identity, de-clutter your home, and recycle. Bring in up to four paper grocery bags of documents to be shredded in the Costick Center parking lot. No junk mail or trash. Residents of Farmington and Farmington Hills only. No fee.

Home Sweet Home

Tuesday, Dec. 5, 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Join a panel of professionals and learn how to safely stay in your home and plan for care and costs. After the presentation, enjoy a complimentary lunch. Register in Conway Hall at the Costick Center or call 248-473-1830.

The Holiday Extravaganza

Friday, Dec. 8, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Return to the days of glamorous holiday parties! Dress to the nines and enjoy a scrumptious meal, entertainment, prizes, and dancing to live music. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door.

Dine and Discover – Up the Lazy River

Wednesday, Dec. 13, 10 a.m.–11:45 a.m. Enjoy a special brunch while you take an imaginary journey on the historic steamer Tashmoo and learn about lighthouses of the Detroit River and surrounding areas. Also, find out about long-gone attractions on the Detroit River from the early 20th century. Advance tickets only, $8 at the Costick Center.

Friday’s Film

Friday, Dec. 15, 12 p.m.–3 p.m. Enjoy lunch, beverage, popcorn, and candy, and watch the movie “This Beautiful Fantastic.” Tickets are $5 in advance, $7 at the door.

Get Fit for the Holidays!

Fitness classes are available for drop-ins throughout December – Yoga, Tai Chi, Gym Exercise, Pickle Ball, and more. Call 248-473-1830 for information.

Several support groups are available at the Center for Active Adults including Caregivers, Grief and Loss, First Step Stroke, and Low Vision Support. The Center also offers many clubs that meet regularly including Book Discussion, Computer Forum, Heritage Hikers, Quilters Group, Farmington Piecemakers, Painters Group, Sojourn Bears, and the Red Hat Society. Call 248-473-1830 for meeting dates and times.
