Holiday activities for Farmington area seniors

The City of Farmington Hills offers dozens of programs for area adults age 50 and better at the Center for Active Adults in the Costick Center, 28600 W. 11 Mile Rd. The Center is open Monday – Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Lunch is served daily, $2.75 for ages 60 and better, $5 for under 60. Advance registration is required for all programs. Get Fit for the Holidays!

Fitness classes are available for drop-ins throughout December. Yoga, Tai Chi, Gym Exercise, Pickle Ball, and more! Call 248-473-1830 for information.

Shredding for Safety

Tuesday, Dec. 3, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Bring in up to four paper grocery bags of documents to be shredded, free of charge, in the Costick Center parking lot. Drive up only. No junk mail or trash, residents of Farmington and Farmington Hills only.

The Holiday Extravaganza

Friday, Dec. 13, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Return to the days of glamorous holiday parties! Dress to the nines and enjoy a scrumptious meal, entertainment, prizes, and a live band. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.

Dine and Discover – Detroit’s Rosie the Riveter

Wednesday, Dec. 18, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Enjoy a special lunch while you learn about Rosie the Riveter and the thousands of women who have a unique “Rosie” story of their own. You are encouraged to share a “herstory” at the event! Advance tickets only, $10 at the Costick Center.

Friday’s Film

Friday, Dec. 20, 12 – 3 p.m. Enjoy lunch, beverage, popcorn, and candy, and watch the movie “The Lion King.” Tickets are $5 in advance, $7 at the door.

Support groups available at the Center for Active Adults include Caregivers, Grief and Loss, First Step Stroke, and Low Vision Support. The Center also offers many clubs that meet regularly including Book Discussion, Computer Forum, Heritage Hikers, Quilters Group, Farmington Piecemakers, Painters Group, Sojourn Bears, and the Red Hat Society.
