Hills Police Department hosts prescription drug take-back event

Anyone with unused or expired prescription drugs may bring them to the Farmington Hills Police Department during a Prescription Drug Take-Back event held Saturday, October 27, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Held in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the event provides a way to anonymously remove potentially dangerous controlled substances (any medication requiring a prescription) from your home.

The Spring Prescription Drug Take-Back Day in April 2018 was the most successful event ever, collecting more than 262 pounds of prescription drugs. Officials hope to match the October 2017 total of 159 pounds.

According to the National Safety Council, teens today are more likely to have abused a prescription drug than an illegal street drug. More than 70 percent of those who abused prescription painkillers reported getting them through friends or relatives.

Prescription drugs are accepted anonymously in any type of container; no identifying information is required. The Police Department is located at 31655 W. 11 Mile Rd. For more information, call the Investigative Division at 248-871-2770.
