Gas main repairs delay 13 Mile project completion

Waiting for the completion of road work on 13 Mile Road in Farmington Hills? Looks like you’ll have to wait a little longer.

Consumers Energy in July found critical repairs are needed in a 16-inch gas main that runs throughout Oakland County, including a section of 13 Mile Road between Haggerty and Inkster Roads in Farmington Hills.

Some of the gas main repairs will require excavation for pipe replacements, and the work will result in lane closures and possible traffic delays. The utility work will also delay the final layer of asphalt and set back the opening of 13 Mile Road between Halsted and Drake.

According to a city press release, the repairs “must be addressed before the gas demands of the winter heating season.”

“Due to the unanticipated and urgent nature of the repair work, advanced planning was not possible. The resulting inconvenience and delays are unfortunately a necessary part of providing safe and reliable gas service to residents of Farmington Hills and surrounding communities,” the release concluded.
