UPDATE: For about three hours Monday night, Farmington and Farmington Hills residents who needed a response from police, fire or emergency medical services had to call the Hills Police Command Desk, 248-871-2610, after a gas line fire in Orion Township knocked out 911 service across Oakland County.
The service went out around 11 p.m. and was restored by 2:40 p.m.
Local news outlets first reported that the fire erupted from a leaking Consumers Energy gas main, but later clarified the source as a transmission line. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department reported around 11:30 p.m. gas mains were contained, but police kept the area around Joslyn and Brown Roads cordoned off as the fire burned itself out.
