Festival of the Arts showcases local creatives April 11-13

The Farmington community’s annual celebration of all things creative opens Thursday, April 11, at the Costick Center, 28600 W. 11 Mile Rd., in Farmington Hills.

The three-day Festival of the Arts includes a free Family Day on Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., that offers hands-on pottery and other artist demos, free make-and-take crafts for kids, live entertainment, displays by area cultural organizations, and more 500 pieces of art to see and buy

‘Art of the Matter’

Art of the Matter

The Farmington Area Arts Commission will host “Art of the Matter,” a free workshop and interactive forum, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. It’s open to all ages, particularly middle and high school students who want to learn more about art-focused education and career opportunities.

During all three days, visitors may browse through the Farmington Art Foundation spring exhibit and sale, open on Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Reception and Awards Ceremony

Friday’s Festival of the Arts Reception and Awards Ceremony recognizes the 2019 Artist in Residence, Distinguished Service to the Arts, High School Art Competition, and Farmington Art Foundation award winners, Art Educator of the Year, and representatives from the Farmington Public Schools PTA Reflections program.

A 6 p.m. reception will feature electronic music by Sean Deason, heavy appetizers, and a cash bar. During the awards ceremony, the Farmington Hills Youth Theatre, dancer Nina Kobayashi and the Warner Middle School choir will perform.

Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at recreg.fhgov.com or in person at the Costick Center. A limited number of tickets may be available at the door.

The Festival of the Arts is presented by the City of Farmington Hills Cultural Arts Division, Farmington Community Arts Council, Farmington Public Schools, and the Farmington Area Arts Commission. The 2019 Festival of the Arts is sponsored in part by the Farmington/Farmington Hills Education Foundation.
