FCB Big Band plays concert under the stars in Farmington Hills

Travel on July 26 to the era of Count Basie and Duke Ellington as the Farmington Community Band Big Band headlines Stars in the Park, the City of Farmington Hills’ weekly summer concert series.

Bring a lawn chair or blanket and picnic dinner to the 7 p.m. concert at Heritage Park, 24915 Farmington Road in Farmington Hills.

The FCB Big Band is a hand-picked group of jazz musicians directed by Randy Barber (trombone) for 15 years and managed by Mike Wiese (baritone saxophone) for 20 years. Spyro Gyra’s “Heliopolis,” Duke Ellington’s “What Am I Here For,” and Asia’s “Only Time Will Tell” will be performed on Thursday. In addition, vocalist Joan Crawford of Detroit’s Brush Park Conservatory of Music and Fine Arts will sing Billie Holiday favorites and other standards.

Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, the exclusive sponsor of the summer concerts, will offer a random raffle drawing for concert goers to win a Mercedes-Benz driving experience. Attendees (21 years or older with a valid U.S. driver’s license) may enter by visiting the Mercedes-Benz Financial Services vehicle display during each concert. The winner will be announced at the August 16 concert.
