Farmington United Gymnasts take second state title

The Farmington United Gymnastics Team (FUG) recently clinched its second consecutive State Championship, once again topping gymnasts from Rockford.

The team includes students from Farmington High School (FHS), Harrison High School (HHS), and North Farmington High School (NFHS). The ended the finals with a score of 145.550, after a regular season in which they won all of their meets.

“We were coming in here confident, and we could believe it,” said Kacey Noseworthy. “However, there was more pressure knowing that we kinda were expected to win.”

The competing gymnasts – Noseworhty, Sydney Schultz, Ava Farquhar, Elena Vargo, Shelby Smith, Kamini Playle, and Allison Schultz – were coached by Jeff Dwyer, Kim Mandrelle, Amanda Pecheniuk, and Nicole Daihl.

Several also placed in the top 10 for Individuals:

  • Kamini Playle: Beam – 2nd Place – D2

  • Sydney Schultz: Bars – 10th Place, Vault – 2nd Place, All Around – 6th Place – D2

  • Ava Farquhar: Beam – 7th Place, Floor – 3rd Place, Vault – 7th Place, All Around – 4th Place – D2

  • Kacey Noseworthy: Bars – 4th Place, Vault – 2nd Place, Floor – 1st Place, All Around – 2nd Place, and Senior Gymnast of the Year – D2

  • Elena Vargo: Bars – 1st Place, Vault – 1st Place, Floor – 1st Place, All Around – 1st Place, Beam – 8th Place – D1

“You’ve gotta have a pretty unique group of girls who can win finals two years in a row,” Dwyer said.
