Farmington Schools needs volunteers for sex ed board

Farmington Public Schools invites parents and community members to participate on the Sex Education Advisory Board.

Required by the State of Michigan and the Department of Education, the board is a District committee consisting of parents, students, educators, local clergy, and medical professionals. The law states that a minimum of 50 percent of the members be parents of current Farmington Public Schools’ students.

Participants will also be selected based on need, ensuring representation from multiple locations and grade levels. The Committee will be appointed by the Board of Education to serve a one-year term.

The role of the Sex Education Advisory Board is to make recommendations regarding Sex Education resources to the Board of Education, and host two public hearings. The public hearings are intended to provide the community with an opportunity to evaluate the proposals and provide feedback before the Farmington Board of Education votes for their adoption.
