Farmington Schools music students say farewell to Harrison

Farmington Public Schools’ combined high school choirs, orchestras, and bands on February 13 performed a united farewell performance in the Harrison High School auditorium.

The 49-year-old school, which will close at the end of this school year. The City of Farmington Hills has plans to transform the building and grounds into a community center.

Parents, alumni, staff, and community residents enjoyed a concert that featured six classics, two each performed by the combined choirs, the combined orchestras, and the combined bands. For the final piece, 350 students gathered around and on the stage to perform “The Awakening”.

Contributing directors included Angel Gippert, Ted McDonald, Michael Steele (Farmington High School), Peggy Babcock, Tom Schroeder (Harrison High School), John Kennedy, Clayton Wachholz, and Jason Debandt (North Farmington High School).

Asked whether the combined concert can be an annual tradition, Gippert said, “I hope so! It was a wonderful way to showcase the talent of the amazing students we have in Farmington Public Schools.”
