More than 150 local youth will tell the story of an ogre named “Shrek” in the Farmington Hills Youth Theatre’s fall production, on stage November 15-18 at the Costick Center in Farmington Hills.
“Shrek the Musical” features an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero…and his name is Shrek.
The cast includes young actors from Farmington, Farmington Hills, and surrounding communities. Sylvie Morton, 12, said in a press release, “I’m lucky that I get to work with such a wonderful group of really nice, friendly people.”
Her mother, Molly Morton, said Sylvie loves the music and the message. “This musical is so empowering for kids who feel a little different sometimes – and who doesn’t?”
Performances of SHREK are on Thursday, Nov. 15 and Friday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Tickets are available online at https://recreg.fhgov.com, at the Costick Center at 28600 W. 11 Mile Rd., or by calling 248-473-1848.
