Farmington Hills resident receives Presbyterian church honor

Farmington Hills resident Laura Wilkinson Hedgecock was honored last week by First Presbyterian Church of Farmington for her service to church and community.

Hedgecock received the church’s annual award of a Lifetime Membership in Presbyterian Women. Over the past 25 years, she has served twice as an elder, providing leadership and sitting on a number of committees. Among many other activities, she is the church’s webmaster and has served as the president/chairperson of the Farmington Presbyterian Preschool.

Sharing her grant-writing skill, Hedgecock helped church to secure a grant for former pastor Sue Melrose’s sabbatical to India, along with two grants for the local Youth United program.

A respected genealogist and author, Hedgecock’s book, Memories of Me: A Complete Guide to Telling and Sharing the Stories of Your Life helps budding genealogists. Recently she was selected as Ambassador for the RootsTech convention to be held October 24-26 in London, England. She blogs at
