Farmington Hills police warn about bitcoin biz scam

A number of local businesses have received email threats that are tied to a much larger fraud, Farmington Hills Police warned Thursday.

According to a nixle.com alert, the notes demanding $20,000 in Bitcoin are part of a nationwide scam. While the sender threatens to detonate bombs if payment is not made, no explosives have been found, businessinsider.com reports.

“At this time the threats are not believed to be credible,” the Farmington Hills alert noted. “If you receive a threatening email requesting payment of any kind, do not respond, but contact your local police department.”
