Farmington Hills police seek suspects in theft of therapy dog

A Farmington Hills resident lost one of his two dogs to thieves while walking Wednesday evening in a neighborhood near Middlebelt between Northwestern Highway and 14 Mile Road.

According to Farmington Hills Police, the owner was in the area of Lochmoor and Queensboro Streets at around 6:45 p.m., when several people in a passing vehicle got out, took the dogs, and drove away, The owner in an attempt to rescue both dogs held onto the vehicle and was dragged a short distance.

Police described the suspects as black men in their teens or early twenties, and the driver, a black woman in her teens or early twenties. The vehicle is described as a silver sub compact, possibly a Chevrolet Aveo or Spark.

The missing dog is one-year old, five-pound, brown male Maltese/Yorkie mix named “Hennessy.”

According to WJBK-TV, the owner of the dogs is a 17-year-old with special needs. His mother told a reporter, “These are his therapy dogs and his best friends.”

Police say they are actively investigating this report, and officers will be conducting increased patrols in the area. Anyone with information is asked to call the Farmington Hills Police Department at 248-871-2610.
