The City of Farmington Hills Special Services Department will offer a June 16 Boater Safety Class for ages 12 and older.
The Saturday class, held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Costick Center, 28600 W. 11 Mile Rd., will be taught by Michigan Safety Classes LLC. The cost is $20 per person for residents and $25 for non-residents.
Passing the Boater Safety Class will allow youth ages 12 to 16 to operate a motor boat of six horsepower or higher. In addition, anyone born after December 31, 1978 must pass this course in order to operate a personal watercraft (PWC).
No one under the age of 14 may legally operate a personal watercraft. A child age 12 and over may ride a personal watercraft with an adult if both have passed an approved Boater Safety class.
Registration is available at recreg.fhgov.com or in person at the Costick Center, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesdays until 7 p.m.
