Farmington Hills food pantry offers help for furloughed workers

A Farmington Hills charity is offering help to local federal workers furloughed during the U.S. government shutdown.

C.A.R.E.S. of Farmington Hills, Inc. at 27835 Shiawassee Rd., invites workers to use its food pantry during the time they are not being paid. The facility is open Tuesday-Friday, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; Thursday, 5-6:30 p.m.; and Saturday, 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

The C.A.R.E.S. pantry provides food monthly to more than 700 people, serving households in Farmington Hills, Farmington, Southfield, Livonia, and Redford.

Participants should bring identification, such as a driver’s license, and a federal ID, a paycheck stub, or other proof of federal employment. Those picking up food for a family should bring a tax return or other document that shows the number of people in the family.
