UPDATE: Farmington Hills police arrest 14-year-old arson suspect

UPDATE: Farmington Hills Police on Tuesday arrested a 14-year-old suspect in two apparent arson fires at Fairmont Park Apartments.

The department issued a press release late Tuesday about two weekend fires that appeared to have been intentionally set at the complex, which is located on Nine Mile Road between Drake and Gill Roads.

In the first fire, on October 18 at around 8:24 p.m., a parked vehicle was burned. The second, on October 19 at around 8:08 p.m., happened in a vacant apartment. In both cases, the small fires were quickly extinguished, and no injuries were reported.

The Farmington Hills Directed Patrol Unit (DPU) and the South Oakland Narcotics Intelligence Consortium (SONIC) – with officers from Farmington Hills, West Bloomfield Township, and Novi Police Departments, and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office – arrested the boy at around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

According to police, DPU and SONIC detectives saw him preparing to enter an unoccupied apartment. He tried to run, but was caught after a foot pursuit. Police said it appears he acted alone.

Anyone with information about the fires should call the Police Command Desk, 248-871-2610.
