Buying or selling online? Farmington Hills Police offer ‘safe zone’

If you are buying, selling, or trading items through the internet, Farmington Hills Police Department offers its parking lot and lobby as Safe Transaction Zones.

Parties may meet at 31655 W. 11 Mile Rd., in front of the main entrance on the north side of Police Headquarters, or in the lobby inside the front of the building. A special sign will soon mark the designated Safe Transaction Zone parking spot.

According to a press release, police department employees cannot serve as witnesses or become involved in any purchase negotiations, but officers will be in close proximity if needed. The department parking lot may not be used to store vehicles or property.

Meeting strangers in a safe location reduces the odds of criminal victimization and eliminates the need to give a stranger your address. Regardless of the meeting location selected, daylight transactions are always the safest.
