A Farmington Public Schools staffer who helps homeless families has been named the district’s 2018 Support Person of the Year.
Teresa Barrick received the news during a March 28 surprise announcement. She has been with the District for 23 years serving the last four years as the District’s Homeless Liaison/Paraprofessional/Clerk.
In nominating Barrick, colleague Hattie Ligon wrote, “Without fail, Teresa treats our most vulnerable with the utmost respect in a world that isn’t always kind. When she sees hungry children, she feeds them. When she finds a crying mother, she consoles her. Teresa is the consummate professional and lives her life in service of others.”
In addition to her work with families, Barrick represents the Homeless Department on a number of community groups, including the Farmington Area Interfaith Association, the Farmington Area Support Team, and Farmington Youth Assistance.
Barrick will be honored by the Board of Education on Tuesday, May 15. She will be considered for the Oakland County Support Person of the Year award.
