An encore performance of an Aretha Franklin tribute by R&B trio Dames Brown is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 25 at the Farmington Players Barn, 32332 W. 12 Mile Road in Farmington Hills.
Hits including “Chain of Fools,” “Natural Woman,” “Spanish Harlem,” “Respect,” “Freeway of Love,” and a Gospel medley featuring a full band and back-up singers will all be part of the show led by Musical Director Chris Codish. A “Tribute to Aretha” offered in March by the Farmington Hills Cultural Arts Division sold out.
“Aretha Franklin is a universal ambassador of what soul music is all about,” said LaRae Starr, a member of Dames Brown. “She’s regal, she’s our queen, and she represents so many great moments in American history.” Aretha Franklin, the musically gifted self-taught piano prodigy, talented vocalist, and creative songwriter known as “The Queen of Soul,” passed away on August 16, 2018.
Nominated as the Best R&B Female Group in 2011 by Detroit Metro Area Musician & Entertainers Association, Dames Brown is made up of Teresa Marbury, LaRae Starr, and Athena Johnson.
