The Farmington Hills Cultural Arts Division invites students in grades 7-12 who have an interest in writing to join a collaborative program that will result in a full-length script produced next year by the Farmington Hills Youth Theatre.
Participants will work under the guidance of Farmington Hills resident Stephen Mack Jones, award-winning playwright and recipient of the prestigious Kresge Arts in Detroit Literary Fellowship. The 2017 Farmington Area Artist in Residence wrote the recently published and well-received book August Snow.
The program is open to students with various levels of writing and theatre experience.
“This is an exciting opportunity for students to explore and express their creativity across the spectrum of theatre production,” Rachel Timlin, Cultural Arts Supervisor, said in a press release. “We want to encourage critical thinking in a fun, inclusive environment.”
“The young playwrights program is a blank slate as the final content is determined by the youth in the program,” said Jessica Guzmán, Cultural Arts Coordinator. “We’re here to guide them in crafting and fine tuning what they wish to say, but the voice is theirs.”
Limited spots are available, and the deadline for applications is January 12, 2018. Learn more here: http://tinyurl.com/FHYT2018Playwrights.
