World record cats found dead in wreckage of Hills home

The owners of two world record cats missing after a November house fire announced late Wednesday that their pets’ remains have been found.

Will and Lauren Powers lost their Quaker Valley Lane home on November 12. Cygnus, a Maine Coon in the 2018 Guinness Book of World Records for his 17.58-inch tail, and Savannah cat Arcturus, the world’s tallest domestic cat at 19.05 inches, were found in a basement room.

The cats apparently died of smoke inhalation, according to a post on Will Powers’ Facebook page.

Sirius, a brown-and-black Bengal cat, and Yuki, a brown-orange tabby with white mittens, were also in the house at the time of the fire. The excavation crew has found no signs of them in the wreckage.

When the fire broke out, Will Powers searched for the cats and opened doors, so they could escape. Over the past several weeks, the couple’s hopes were raised by sightings of unusually large cats in and around Farmington Hills. The couple offered a $25,000 Bitcoin reward for the safe return of each cat.
