The Farmington Hills/Farmington Emergency Preparedness Commission (EPC) will present a Women’s Self-Defense Seminar on Monday, September 17, 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m., at the Costick Center, 28600 W. 11 Mile Rd.
Participants will learn how to protect themselves and their families in a non-intimidating, supportive environment; no previous experience is required. The seminar will be presented by a team of senior instructors led by Grand Master David Swartz, an Eighth Degree Black Belt with over 40 years of experience in teaching self-defense skills. The event will be active and hands-on, so participants should wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to share their self-defense related questions and concerns.
The free self-defense seminar is open to all women ages 13 and older. Tax deductible donations will be accepted for Kids Kicking Cancer, a 501(c) (3) organization that provides weekly classes in mind-body martial arts techniques with a mission to ease the pain of sick children while promoting physical, spiritual, and emotional healing.
Pre-registration is required and participation is limited to the first 100 callers. Over 1,450 women have participated in the EPC’s popular self-defense seminars since they were first presented in 2007. Repeat attendees who would like to refresh their existing skills and learn more advanced self-defense responses are welcome to attend.
To register, please call the Costick Center at 248-473-1800.
