With ice on the way, Farmington schools cancel classes

Citing hazardous weather conditions in the forecast, Farmington Public Schools officials have canceled classes Wednesday, February 6.

Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Fabian elementary schools, and Mercy High School are also closed tomorrow, along with a number of private preschools.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), freezing rain and sleet are expected across metro Detroit between 1 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Total accumulations will range from one-tenth to one-quarter of an inch, with higher amounts possible.

According to the NWS, “Treacherous and slick travel conditions are likely, especially on untreated roadways, bridges, exit ramps, and overpasses. Motorists should anticipate highly variable driving conditions based on treated versus untreated roadways.”

The warning also notes that power outages may be possible, due to ice accumulation.

This is a developing story.
