While ice-cold temperatures seem far away, one Farmington group is already giving some thought to ice skating season.
The Riley Park Ice Rink Committee will host a “skate swap” from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5 at Riley Park and and the Walter E. Sundquist Farmington Pavilion in downtown Farmington.
Committee member Melissa Andrade said the event offers an opportunity for friends and neighbors to meet, while filling a need for young skaters who have grown since last winter.
“Until the rink has a skate rental program in place, this is a great alternative to make sure that kids get skates for the season,” she said.
The event is open to the public, and those who want to swap or sell skates or skating equipment can register for table space by calling 248-474- 5500, ext. 2221 or writing to firstname.lastname@example.org. The committee plans to promote the types and sizes of skates available before the event.
The committee is also accepting donated skates, which will be available at the ice rink for skaters to borrow.
