Farmington area residents are invited to a May 28 event that kicks off the local Beaumont Healthy Communities partnership.
The health system, which operates a hospital in Farmington Hills, works with with mayors, city councils, public schools superintendents, and interested community members to promote healthy lifestyles, improve physical and mental health, and prevent chronic disease.
“Because each community has its own distinct culture, resources, dynamics, and social and economic landscapes, each Healthy Community works with their coalition members to develop programs and strategies to fit the unique needs and strengths,” Beaumont’s Kari Woloszyk said in a press release.
The Healthy Communities Initiative capitalizes on the strong connection between “place” and health to improve chronic conditions by making the healthy choice the easy choice. Each Healthy Community has a formalized Healthy Community Coalition, whose members meet regularly and work collaboratively to optimize the reach of existing programs; and support development of new programs, events, and land use that promote healthy living in their communities.
According to the release, four key principles drive strategies for improvements within each Healthy Community:
- Address community health needs through diverse and meaningful partnerships
- Implement large scale interventions in multiple settings (policy, systems, and environment)
- Emphasis healthy equity across all populations and initiatives
- Create sustainable change and impact
The May 28 kick-off event will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Costick Activities Center, 28600 W. 11 Mile Rd. in Farmington Hills. To learn more or RSVP, write to firstname.lastname@example.org.
