Greater Farmington Founders Festival

The City of Farmington Hills offers programs for adults age 50 and better at the Center for Active Adults, located in the Costick Center, 28600 W. 11 Mile Rd . The Center is open Monday – Friday from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Lunch is served daily, $2.75 for ages 60 and better, $5 for under 60. Advance registration is required for all programs. Law Day

Thursday, May 2, 9:45 a.m. – 2 p.m. Law Day information will cover retirement, wills, trusts, and scams with a representative from the Oakland County Bar Association. A complimentary lunch is included, you must register in advance. No fee.

First Friday Ballroom & Buffet

May 3, 3 – 6 p.m. Buffet dinner and ballroom dancing with the Mike Wolverton Band. All levels of dance experience, couples and singles, everyone welcome. Tickets available in Conway Hall. Fee is $10 by May 2, $12 at the door.

Community Library Outreach

Tuesday, May 7, 10 – 11 a.m. The Farmington Community Library provides a wide selection of books, many in large print, available in Conway Hall. No charge.

Dine and Discover – The Beatles and the British Invasion

Tuesday, May 7, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Enjoy a delicious treat while you learn all about the Beatles, from their early success in England to their explosion onto the American scene in early 1964 that led to the “British Invasion,” to how they became the most popular music group of all time. Advance tickets only, $10 at the Costick Center.

Driver Safety Program

Wednesday, May 8 and Thursday, May 9, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The AARP offers this comprehensive driver refresher course geared toward the needs of older motorists. Participants must attend both days and may be entitled to a reduction in auto insurance costs. Fee is $18 for AARP members, $23 for non-members.

Karaoke

Friday, May 10, 1 – 3 p.m. Head to Conway Hall for karaoke and enjoy singing along with classics from the past and today’s hits featuring Zack Entertainment. Light refreshments. Fee is $2.

Total Brain Health – “How To” Remember

Monday, May 13, 10 – 11:15 a.m. Learn how to remember what you read, see, and hear and find out about the seven strategies for making lists more memorable. No fee. Call 248-473-1830 to register.

Travel Show

Tuesday, May 14, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Join Rybicki Tours to preview winter and spring travel opportunities and great packages for both local and long-distance trips. Trip registration with payment will be accommodated immediately after the presentation.

Friday’s Film

Friday, May 17, 12 – 3 p.m. After a delicious lunch, enjoy the movie “A Star is Born,” with popcorn, candy, and a drink. Tickets available in Conway Hall, $5 in advance, $7 at the door.

Health & Fitness Day

Thursday, May 23, 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Celebrate National Senior Health and Fitness Day with a sampler of free fitness classes, ranging from Tai Chi and yoga to sports and gym, plus a mini health fair, screenings, and other fun activities. A healthful meal will be complimentary for those who participate in five activities!

Several support groups are also available at the Center for Active Adults including Caregivers, Grief and Loss, First Step Stroke, and Vision Support. The Center also offers many clubs that meet regularly including Computer Forum, Painters Group, and the Red Hat Society. Call 248-473-1830 for meeting dates and times.
