Thistle Rose Academy of Arts will host a free workshop on Saturday, February 9, celebrating African Dance and Drumming.
Held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity in the Woods Episcopal Church, 26880 La Muera St. in Farmington Hills, the Black History Month workshop will be led by instructors Baba Kamaal Amenra and Basira Norris from Wayne State University.
Dancing is not required, even those who don’t want to move will learn about African culture. Refreshments will be provided.
Those who plan to dance should dress comfortably in clothes that breathe and allow for movement. You may bring a Lapa (dance wrap skirt), or a piece of lightweight material, 4-6 feet or approximately 1.5-2 yards. This class will be done with bare feet.
