Farmington Schools girls spend a day as Digital Divas

A group of Farmington Public Schools middle school girls recently spent a day as “Digital Divas,”  participating in a conference that encourages and engages female middle and high school students in technology careers.

Held at Eastern Michigan University (EMU) in Ypsilanti, activities and breakout sessions were free, and EMU provided transportation. More than 300 middle school girls from throughout southeastern Michigan learned about career opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Topics included:

  • careers in technology
  • gender stereotypes, and how they can be broken with careers in tech
  • awareness of safe online interactions
  • ethical behaviors when texting, emailing and using social media

A separate event for high school students will be held in April 2019.
